Review-Food Food Channel Mummy Ka Magic Recipe Book

It is the biggest question that every mom faces every single day. What to cook for their little ones? Whether it is breakfast, school lunch or dinner, children are not pleased easily and we moms have to constantly pull out new tricks out of the bag to keep our young ones from turning their nose up at our culinary treats.

Cookbook for kids food often come to the rescue of Moms like me who like to plan ahead the menu and do grocery shopping accordingly. The latest one I bought for my Kids’ recipe collection (I have quite a few!!) was Food Food Mummy Ka Magic Recipe Book.

Food Food Channel and Mummy Ka Magic Show

Food Food is a food, lifestyle and entertainment channel which is owned by renowned chef Sanjeev Kapoor. The channel features the Mummy Ka Magic show every week. The show is hosted by former model and charming Mom Amrita Raichand. The show has a lot of fans in Moms who have picky eaters and it demonstrates simple recipes that can be turned into a work of art with a little bit of creativity and tons of love.

The Mummy Ka Magic-Never Fail Kiddie Treats Cookbook.

Based on the show, the Mummy Ka Magic recipe book features more than 70 food recipes which will not only satisfy the kiddie appetites but the flavourful & innovative recipes will make sure that the kids keep asking for more.

The book has been divided into seven parts : Breakfast, Snacks, Beverages & Soups, Main Dishes, Desserts, Cakes & Cookies and Basic Recipes. Some of the recipes that I really like are

Vermicelli Idli, Saturn Eggs, Almond honey milk, hot dog soup, nutri nugget burgers, a doll faced kedgeree, bunny cupcakes, chocolate spiders and dried fruit treats. There are also basic recipes like Icing, Mayonnaise, Chicken stock, Green chutney etc.

The book just like the show believes in the mantra “Go local”. So you can expect exotic looking dishes which have been made using only Indian ingredients. A few recipes use ingredients like tinned tuna, canape cases, Parmesan cheese etc. but you can now find these easily in any supermarket in Indian cities.

The recipes are detailed and crisp. They give the measurements of ingredients and number of servings too. There are helpful tips and tricks given in various recipes which make cooking a breeze.

Although the book is titled Never fail Kiddie Treats, the recipes can easily be adapted for serving at an adult brunch or a family dinner too. I think that makes it a very wholesome recipe book for every family.

The food photographs in the book are also decorated to appeal to the kids. So you have a chicken and pineapple sandwich arranged like a caterpillar and cookies which look like little puppies. Adorable!!

Personally I would like each recipe to be accompanied by a photograph of the final product so that I know what it should look like. If you are a more experienced cook or like to cook intuitively then I don’t think it should be a problem for you.

There are quite a few recipes which use Refined Flour (Maida) in them. I wish there were some wholewheat substitution tips or alternate recipes using only wholewheat too. Once in a while Maida is okay but it is a no-no for regular use.

You can Buy Mummy Ka Magic: Never-Fail kiddie treats from as well as most book retailers.

Overall I think the Mummy Ka Magic Recipe Book is a wonderful addition to any family kitchen. The best part is that the recipes are simple enough for your kids to join in the cooking and even help in decorating the food. That is a fool proof plan to get them eating and asking for more.

Which is your favorite recipe book for preparing food for your children? Have you bought the Mummy Ka Magic Cookbook and have some suggestions or  ideas to share? Go ahead and jot them down in the comments below.
